Robin's not happy

Robin is not around much just lately, when he does show himself he is not his usual happy self. He has a scruffy coat tail feathers missing or he just looks really fed up. When he appeared today it was the same. His face looked very sore, he has a bald patch behind his eye and what looked like blood around his face. He did not look happy at all he looked really down in the dumps.

I don't know if he has been fighting or if he is just having a really bad moult.

Collar Dove numbers are up

This morning I had an appointment at the doctors. I had to go as the pain was getting so much worse I had to do something. Dr Daru was his usual cheerful self, he asked me what he could do for me and I told him "shoot me" I don't think he believed I meant it, as he just laughed at me then carried on as if it had never been said. I am now back on Tramadol instead of Co-codamol so hopefully the pain will get better to handle  soon.
After returning home I went down to feed the birds and squirrels, the garden is attracting a lot of Collar Doves at the moment, sometimes as many as 14 at a time. There is no wonder the Sparrowhawk is hunting in the garden again.

Bread baking day

Today I was back in the kitchen baking bread. I made Tony's favourite, Olive & Garlic loaf. I also baked a Multi-seeded and I tried something new, A Boozy Loaf.
The Boozy Loaf can be made with beer, cider or lager, I made our's with a can of Strongbow dark fruits Cider. It was very tasty, I was surprised that the bread tasted of the cider I expected the taste to disappear during baking. I will definitely try the recipe again but next time I will use lager or a bottle of beer.

The loaf on the board is The Boozy Bread, The Loaf on the wire next to the fruit bowl is the Olive & Garlic loaf and next to that is the Multi-seeded loaf.
Tony has passed them all as very tasty so they must be good not that I am being big headed or anything.

The Rogue Seeds

The Wild Bird Seed I buy always has printed on the side of the bag non-growing seed. I think either the suppliers are unable to keep that promise or the seeds are getting into the bag un-noticed, but whatever there are always one or two rogue seeds that manage to grow.

I will just leave it to grow along with four others scattered around the garden.

A sigh of relief

I am pleased to see the Juvenile Woodpecker in the garden today, we were a bit worried he had become Sparrowhawk lunch. Tony had found some feathers in the garden a few days ago that we both thought looked like woodpecker feathers and we both thought the worst, so it was a relief to see him happily tucking into the peanut butter on the bush this afternoon.

Tony got slimed

A visit to Morecambe and Bentham to see Tony's two son's their wives and families is always an enjoyable day out. Tony is always saying he doesn't see them enough, whether they feel the same or not is up for discussion.

Tony enjoys playing with his youngest grandson  Oliver who has Tony wrapped around his little finger. I don't know where Tony finds the energy from to keep up with him .  They ran round with cardboard swords and slime, plastic guns and circular saws, I was tired just watching.

I did notice that Levi the black lab was very quiet this visit, he was probably glad that somebody else was there to entertain Oliver.
