Dreaming of a des res.

Today's Photo Of The Day.

Feeding Time.

I think when you see the lambs in the fields it is a sure sign that spring is here. This little one knew exactly what it wanted. The lambs tail seemed to be attached to it's mouth, the faster it sucked, the faster it's tail wagged.

We were on our way to Morecambe to visit Tony's son Carl, and his family. When we set off the weather was not brilliant, it was quite foggy most of the way. When we drove up over the tops above the fog and clouds the sun shone and it was a beautiful morning.

We spotted a couple of places we wouldn't have minded living in.

The white house in the first photo looked nice and secluded, a good place to live where nobody would bother us.

The second photo shows a Des Res that needs a lot of TLC, but what a spot no neighbours for miles, peace and quite.

I know somewhere like this is really not a good idea for me, I wouldn't stand a chance on my own and if anything happened to Tony, well I would be well and truly knackered wouldn't I!!!

Until tomorrow...

Why golf balls?

Today's Photo Of The Day.
RAF Menwith Hill
(or as we call it the giant golf balls near the dales.)

When we drove past these as children we always used to whisper to each other about what happened in there. Sometimes we said it was American spies, other times it was aliens from space. None of us ever really knew what they were or what the place was used for, I don't think we really cared it was just something to pass time on a long car journey. Even now I don't fully understand or really have must interest, I suppose really I probably should! Oh well maybe one day I will but not today! Today I am thinking about red squirrels and dolphins...

The trouble with squirrels

Today's Photo Of The Day.
Squirrel Has Been In The Mint Again.

Squirrels can be a real pain sometimes, they get me into all sorts of trouble with Margaret who lives downstairs! She plays hell with them for digging in her plant pots, she covers them with wire mesh, puts washing powder on them, but nothing stops the squirrels. I knew how she felt when they began to dig in my pot of mint. I lifted it off the floor and stood it on a stand thinking it might stop them, no such luck. Although it is amusing watching them pour themselves out of the pot down to the floor when they have finished. I wonder if their peanuts taste minty??

A prediction.

Today's Photo Of The Day.

Robins Found His Mate.

Robins little gifts of mealworms and suet have worked! He has found his mate. Maybe thats why he was being so nice yesterday. So I think I can predict that we will have Robin chicks in the garden this spring!

Robins being nice.

Today's Photo Of The Day.
Robin Is Sharing For A Change.

It was nice to see robin sharing the mealworms today, I think it was probably just because it was a bigger bird than him. Mr blackbird isn't easily pushed around by any other bird in the garden!

Water pistols at the ready.

Today's Photo's Of The Day.

Mrs Blackbird looks like she is feeding chicks.

Away She Goes.

Mrs Blackbird is still collecting food from the garden, she is spending most of her time flying backwards and forwards between our garden and the neighbours garden. I think the nest is in the bush just over the fence in the corner.
One of the cats is paying very close attention to it as well. It is a small black cat with 4 white paws and a white bib. I watched it the other day when I was in the shed. The cat would jump up as a bird flew into the bush, it would clap it's front paws together as if it was trying to catch it between them. Of course it didn't stand a chance as the birds were much too fast for it. I just worry about what will happen when the chicks start fledging, that is when it will need watching. I feel the purchase of a new water pistol coming on!

Chase me!!!

Today's Photo Of The Day.

Great Tits Playing Chase.

This is not a very good photo, however I put it on because I enjoyed watching the male great tit chasing the 2 female great tits up, down and round the bushes. Neither of them seemed to give him the time of day. So in the end he just seemed to give up and went to eat some sunflower seeds instead.
The male great tit has a broader black chest stripe than the females, so you can see the male is the one at the top left of the picture.

A brave move into the garden

Today's Photo Of The Day.
A Cheeky Chaffinch.

The male chaffinch is getting to be a regular visitor, he is also becoming a lot braver. he comes into the middle of the garden now instead of just staying in the bushes. He has taken a liking to the red shredded suet and the sunflower hearts.

Robins looking for a mate.

Today's Photo Of The Day.
A feast For Robin.

Robin has been very excited the last few days, he is always first into the garden when the food is out. I think he is trying to entice a partner, I have seen him taking some mealworms and shredded suet into the corner of the garden near the gate. That is usually where he looks for a female robin, she likes to sit in the lilac bush.

Until tomorrow...

A very busy Blackbird.

Today's Photo Of The Day.

Mrs Blackbird Collecting Mealworms.

I think the blackbirds might already have a nest in the hedge over the fence. Mrs Blackbird has been very busy today collecting mealworms and bugs from the garden, then flying over the fence into the bushes. Only time will tell.

Until tomorrow...
