A treat

Todays photo of the day

Miss Squirrel and her first hazel nut.

It must be nearly Christmas there are nuts in the supermarkets! We thought we would treat the squirrels and bought a bag of mixed nuts. Miss Squirrel looked amazed when she saw them, it didn't take her long to decide what to do though. She picked up a hazel nut and ran.

In the mirror

Todays photo of the day

Through the mirror, things look closer than they are!

It was raining, it was cold, I was fed up and the car behind was getting closer. I have discovered if I take a photo through the mirror they back off.

The Great Spotted Woodpecker gets buzzed.

Todays photo of the day

The Great Spotted Woodpecker.

The juvenile woodpecker has been visiting the garden for a while now eating the parrot bars I put out for the squirrels. He was minding his own business this morning when suddenly he was buzzed by a flock of Collar Doves. I had just tried to take a shot of the woodpecker as the doves flew by, the result of this made the doves look like a group of spooky ghostly doves, or at least to me it did.

Squirrels need new nutboxes...

Todays photo of the day

Miss Squirrel enjoying a monkey nut on the nut box.

The nut box is in need of repair, Tony is going to mend it when he has the time, at the moment he is busy building a Hedgehog hopefully to get a hedgehog hibernating for the winter.
It is a very posh house all lined and waterproof very snug and cosy. I wonder if the squirrels might like it? I bet they go for a look.

The garden is very quiet again at the moment apart from the squirrels, I thought it was livening up a bit but no the birds are just not showing themselves at all.

The loss of a dove

Only three days ago I was telling of the Collar Doves and how well they were doing. I am afraid today I have sad news. This Collar Dove was spotted not looking very well

Then it moved to the table and tried to eat something

The Dove could not manage although it tried .

The next time I saw it which was maybe 10 - 15 minutes later it lay on the floor beneath the sparrow bush. The Collar Dove was dead. All I can say is it didn't seem to suffer it died quickly and I hope painlessly. I removed the body and threw away the food on the table cleaned it well and refilled it with food.
So September had a sad ending to it.

I stayed in the shed a while longer but my heart was not in it, I only took a couple more photos so I have nothing much to offer for photo of the day but I have something

The Laurel Bush is home to the beasties.

Todays photo of the day

Harlequin Ladybird and Larva.

The larva are a distinct larva to the Harlequin Ladybird, this Ladybird is often confused with the Seven Spot Ladybird, however this is definitely not a Seven Spot.

A bit of alsorts

This is a member of the Shield Bug family.

Acanthosoma Haemorrhoidale
Another beasty found in the Laurel bush.

Spiders living in the cupboard in the shed, at least they will keep the flies out. The body on the Black Spider is bigger than a penny.

It's a large jump for Miss Squirrel to the feeding station. But worth the jump to get there.

and finally
