A surprise baby

WWe still have new babies appearing in the garden, one that I was very pleased to see was the Juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker. The Woodpeckers have not been in the garden for a long time so it was a really nice surprise to spot him.

Not a great picture but the best I could manage from the kitchen window to the bottom of our garden.

I was not the only one with a camera

Today I did not take many photographs!

The one I have chosen was taken in Leeds, the man in the picture was so busy looking at what he could see that he walked into the post in front of him almost falling over it.

A peacock in the garden

Today I spotted a Peacock Butterfly on the Buddleia bush in the bottom of the garden. I could not get in a position where I could get a clear shot. The butterfly was so high up I could not get level with it, I didn't think I was going to be able to get a photograph at all. However I did manage to get some pictures after all. I had just snapped away and hoped for the best. So here they are,

A morning visit

This morning Tony was looking out of the bedroom window when he asked me what it was in the tree, he didn't have his glasses on and could not make it out. Well this is what it was

It is one of the squirrels having a peep through the bedroom window.

Later in the day I went down into the garden and the starlings were back in force, Starling Wars part ? There has been so many I just cannot remember .

The corpse in the garden

Tony shouted me into the kitchen this morning where he was making coffee.
There is something dead in the garden, it's behind the sparrow bush. I walked into the kitchen binoculars in hand, there were 2 piles of feathers and what looked like a headless corpse.
I could not definitely identify the bird but it looked like a pigeon. There would be closer examination when we went out later.
The four squirrels that visited the garden early this morning were not happy to find a dead body in the garden. All of them avoided it giving it sideways glances and doing a crab dance if they got too close. (A crab dance is something the squirrels do when they are unhappy they hold their tail sideways walk sideways very slowly almost on their belly.)
After a trip out to do some essential grocery shopping Tony and I ventured down to the garden to formally identify the corpse. As we had expected it was a feral pigeon, we think it had been killed by a hawk, but it had been too big for it to carry away. Then we think maybe a cat had found it, thought I'll have a bit of that, had a quick chew dragged it about a bit then left it.
Our downstairs neighbour had promised Tony a couple of small trees so what better time than now to plant them.
Tony dug a hole dropped in the corpse put in the tree and filled in the hole, then planted two smaller trees next to it. I bet I know which tree grows best!
There was one thing while Tony was planting the trees next doors cat came sneaking round the gate, I wonder what she was looking for?

Getting into bad company

There are a lot of collar doves in the garden at the moment, the most at one time was eight.
They seem to be hanging around with the pigeons, I don't think much of their taste in company.

The Car Boot Sale

The weather was good so we decided to go to the car boot sale at York.
There were not too many people there so I was happy with that, as I have told you before crowds are not something I enjoy.

I only bought a few books, Tony did not buy much either but I think his best buy was some green garlic.

Tony bought enough to eat some now and to plant some in september to grow his own.
